Scores of Nigerians gathered in Abuja on Monday, launching a large-scale protest over escalating fuel costs, chronic fuel shortages, and mounting economic hardship.

Led by Abdullahi Bilal of the (Two Million Man March Against Oil Scam Cabal) and Barrister Napoleon Otache and Olayemi Isaac from Citizens and Economic Freedom Rights Activists in Nigeria (CEFRAN), the demonstrators demanded immediate action to address what they described as failed leadership in managing the country’s oil sector.

Central to the protests were grievances over skyrocketing fuel prices and the never-ending queues, which they argued have driven inflation and plunged millions of Nigerians into poverty.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens in Libya following a recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football against the Libyan Football Association.

The CAF decision cited Libya for alleged mistreatment of the Nigerian team during a Nations Cup Qualifying Match.

The Ministry, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe on Sunday, confirmed that Nigerians in Libya are safe and going about their daily activities without interference.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu has expressed optimism that the Ondo State Governorship Election on November 16, would be a successful exercise.

Yakubu said the commission had learned its lessons from the last governorship election in Edo State in September and other previous elections, in the area of logistics and results management during elections.

The chairman stated this on Monday, during his visit to the state headquarters of the commission in Akure, the state capital.

He said, “We have learnt a lot of lessons not only from the last election but also from previous elections. Basically, there are two challenges, the first one is logistics for election, so that polling units open promptly on election day.

“The second one is result management and my assurance to voters in Ondo State is that they are going to see fast improvement in these two processes.”

On his mission to the state, the INEC boss explained that he was in the Ondo to assess the preparation of the Ondo State office of the commission ahead of the November 16 poll.

He said, “We have received positive reports from our state office in Akure but we decided also to come for readiness assessment. So, we are here basically to look at what is happening,and the good work that the state office has done.

Kyari Must Go–Protesters Storm NNPC Towers In Abuja

Several Nigerians, especially youths have stormed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL towers in Abuja, demanding the immediate resignation of Group Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mele Kyari.

The protesters, led by some Civil Society Organizations, CSO described Kyari’s leadership as incompetent, citing skyrocketing fuel prices, endless fuel queues, and economic hardship in Nigeria.

The protesters carrying placards with different inscriptions such as “we demand the immediate resignation of Kyari”, amongst others, said the leadership of the NNPCL boss has failed.

One of the conveners, Abdullahi Bilal who addressed journalists called for an end to “fraudulent fuel subsidy” and alleged importation of adulterated fuel, stating that it is a harmful practice that must stop immediately.
